Manchester United seems poised to part ways with Antony, the Brazilian player they acquired for £86 million in 2022, which made him their second-most expensive signing. Despite his promising start, scoring three goals in his first three Premier League games, Antony struggled to maintain consistency throughout his debut season at Old Trafford.

Throughout the season, Antony showcased moments of brilliance, contributing notable assists and goals. However, his overall performance has fallen short of expectations, managing only two goals and two assists in 33 appearances. Controversy surrounded him when he reportedly left training after learning he wouldn’t start against Bournemouth, although the club refrained from commenting on the incident.

Rumors are circulating that Manchester United is considering Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise as a potential replacement for Antony. The club’s aim is to offload the Brazilian to recoup part of their investment and alleviate the burden of high player salaries. Despite the lack of concrete offers, United remains hopeful of attracting potential suitors in the upcoming weeks. However, Antony’s hefty price tag and wages may dissuade potential buyers, making it challenging for United to recover a significant portion of their initial investment.

With three years left on his contract and a weekly salary of approximately £200,000, negotiations for Antony’s departure may entail financial compromises from both sides. While United fans may appreciate INEOS’s proactive approach in offloading underperforming players, this decision carries financial implications for the club. Nevertheless, prioritizing the team’s goals over individual shortcomings is in line with their long-term vision for success.
