Chelsea’s manager Mauricio Pochettino dismissed this morning in a surprising move by the management following fan pressure for his removal.

Marc Cucurella asserts that despite doubts swirling around Mauricio Pochettino’s future at Chelsea, the Argentine manager maintains the support of his players. Pochettino finds himself under intense scrutiny as his inaugural season at the helm of the Blues nears its conclusion. With only 13 victories in 33 matches, Chelsea languishes in ninth place in the Premier League, a substantial 19 points adrift of the top four.

Since Todd Boehly’s consortium assumed control over two years ago, the club has splurged more than one billion pounds on player acquisitions, yet they’ve failed to live up to their potential on the pitch. Following a humiliating 5-0 defeat to Arsenal and a 1-0 loss to Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final, murmurs emerged within the hierarchy about Pochettino’s future, exacerbated by Arsenal’s comprehensive 5-0 win over Tottenham.

Despite mounting pressure, Pochettino’s fortunes seemed to turn when his side rallied from a 2-0 deficit against Aston Villa to salvage a 2-2 draw. However, controversy arose as the video assistant referee controversially annulled Axel Disasi’s late goal. Cucurella’s confidence in Pochettino’s leadership direction prompts the belief that he warrants further time to turn things around.

When questioned about the players’ apparent desire for Pochettino to remain in charge following the Villa comeback, Cucurella affirmed unequivocally, citing Pochettino’s halftime motivational speech as a pivotal moment. He attributes Chelsea’s struggles not to managerial deficiencies but rather to collective responsibility and mentality. Despite setbacks like the 5-0 drubbing, Cucurella insists the squad remains firmly behind Pochettino.

Pochettino, who signed a two-year contract with an option for an additional year, faces the precariousness of Stamford Bridge’s short-term outlook, exemplified by his predecessor Graham Potter’s swift dismissal. Despite making plans for the upcoming transfer window and preseason, the specter of termination looms large over Pochettino’s tenure. As Chelsea gears up to face Tottenham, followed by a string of crucial fixtures to close the season, Pochettino’s future remains uncertain amidst ongoing discussions with the club’s co-owners and sporting directors.
