Chelsea has named this surprising individual as their new manager following Pochettino’s dismissal.

The position at the top of Chelsea’s lineup is expected to be the most crucial to address, as the club is keen on acquiring a proven number nine with a consistent goal-scoring record. Chelsea might finally act on their long-held interest in Napoli’s prolific forward, Victor Osimhen, with a potential summer transfer. Last season, Chelsea’s performance fell short of their Expected Goals metric, with Nicolas Jackson being notably inefficient in front of the net.

Osimhen, despite netting 15 goals in 25 Serie A appearances, experienced a somewhat underwhelming season compared to his previous campaign, mirroring the overall performance of his club, Napoli. In addition to his impressive goal-scoring abilities, Osimhen has a substantial release clause of £113 million and has reportedly attracted interest from other major clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal.

On another front, Chelsea is also looking to strengthen their options at left-back. The departure of seasoned defender Thiago Silva has created a vacancy for a new center-back in the squad. However, to comply with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations, Chelsea must generate revenue by offloading some of their current players before they can embark on their summer transfer plans.

Given that sales of their players would count as pure profit, it is anticipated that players such as Conor Gallagher, Armando Broja, Ian Maatsen, and Trevoh Chalobah will be sold. Other peripheral squad members may also be considered for transfer as Chelsea looks to balance their books.

The forward position is a pressing need for Chelsea, as their goal-scoring woes were evident last season. Nicolas Jackson, one of their forwards, struggled significantly, underperforming in relation to the chances created. This inefficiency has intensified the urgency for a reliable striker, making Victor Osimhen an attractive option. Osimhen’s ability to find the back of the net consistently has placed him on the radar of top European clubs, but Chelsea’s long-standing interest suggests they may make a concerted effort to secure his services this summer.

Chelsea’s interest in Osimhen aligns with their broader strategy to enhance their attacking prowess. His impressive scoring record, despite a relatively modest season by his standards, highlights his potential to elevate Chelsea’s offensive output. The high release clause, while substantial, underscores his value and the level of competition Chelsea might face from other elite clubs like PSG and Arsenal.

Additionally, Chelsea’s defensive line is set for an overhaul with the departure of Thiago Silva. Strengthening the defense, particularly by bringing in a new center-back and bolstering the left-back position, is on the agenda. This defensive restructuring, coupled with the need for a top striker, forms the core of Chelsea’s transfer strategy.

However, financial constraints imposed by the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules mean Chelsea must first focus on player sales. Offloading players like Conor Gallagher, Armando Broja, Ian Maatsen, and Trevoh Chalobah will be crucial. These sales will provide the necessary funds and help Chelsea meet regulatory requirements, allowing them to proceed with their ambitious summer plans. The need to sell before buying indicates a strategic approach to balancing their squad and finances ahead of the next season.
