Fabrizio Romano reports that Anthony Gordon has chosen to transfer to Liverpool FC this summer.

Liverpool is reportedly planning a substantial offer to acquire Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon. According to Teamtalk, the Reds are preparing a bid that includes £50 million in cash plus their goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher to secure the services of the English winger.

Under the guidance of manager Arne Slot, Liverpool is gearing up for an active summer transfer window. Slot is set to receive significant backing from the club as he aims to make key personnel changes to bolster the squad. Strengthening both their attack and defense is a priority for Liverpool this summer, and Gordon has emerged as a significant target in their plans.

The interest from Liverpool in Gordon is partly driven by Newcastle’s need to sell players to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules. To meet these financial regulations, Newcastle has already agreed to let Yankuba Minteh move to Brighton, and Gordon could be another player sold as part of this strategy. Liverpool is keen to capitalize on this situation to bring Gordon to Anfield.

Gordon is currently on international duty for England at the Euros and has caught the eye of England manager Gareth Southgate following a strong Premier League season. In the recent campaign, Gordon was involved in 21 goals, scoring 11 and providing 10 assists, showcasing his impact and potential. His performances have heightened Liverpool’s interest, and the player is reportedly open to joining Liverpool despite the rivalry between the Reds and his former club, Everton.

Liverpool is prepared to make a significant financial commitment to secure Gordon’s services. The proposed deal would involve £50 million in cash plus the inclusion of Kelleher, who is valued between £25 million and £35 million. This would bring the total value of the deal to around £75 million to £85 million.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe is determined to retain Gordon, recognizing the winger’s quality and potential impact on the team. However, the financial pressures and the need to comply with league regulations might force Newcastle’s hand. Additionally, Newcastle’s requirement for a new goalkeeper to provide competition for Nick Pope could be addressed by including Kelleher in the deal, making the transfer beneficial for both clubs.

Despite the potential benefits, Newcastle would be reluctant to lose a player of Gordon’s caliber. The 23-year-old winger has been an integral part of their squad, and letting him go would be a significant decision. However, the substantial offer from Liverpool, coupled with Newcastle’s financial needs, might make this deal a compelling one for the Magpies.
