Major update released today about Martin Zubimendi’s potential transfer to Liverpool

    adminBy adminAugust 8, 2024No Comments2 Mins Read

Liverpool are reportedly contemplating a move for Martin Zubimendi this summer, according to a recent update from Paul Joyce, a reliable journalist with The Times, shared on X (formerly Twitter). The club’s search for a new No.6 has led them to shift their focus from more defensively-minded ‘destroyer’ types to players with a ‘controller’ profile, which is more in line with the tactical adjustments made by their new manager, Arne Slot.

Paul Joyce’s report suggests that Arne Slot is seriously considering Martin Zubimendi as a potential first major signing of the transfer window. Slot, who has recently taken over as Liverpool’s head coach, is aiming to implement a more possession-oriented style of play. He believes that Zubimendi, a 25-year-old Spaniard, would be instrumental in achieving this by providing greater control and stability in the midfield.

Zubimendi is highly regarded for his ability to influence the game through his positional awareness and passing accuracy, qualities that Slot sees as essential for the team’s new approach. If Liverpool proceeds with the acquisition of Zubimendi, it could have implications for the current squad, particularly for Wataru Endo. Endo, who was initially brought in to fill a defensive midfield role, may find himself surplus to requirements if Zubimendi joins the team. Endo’s style and skill set do not align as well with the revised tactical framework that Slot is looking to implement.

The transfer fee for Zubimendi is reported to be around £51 million, reflecting his value and the competitive nature of the market for such sought-after players. Liverpool’s willingness to invest in a player with this release clause underscores their commitment to strengthening their midfield with a player who fits their new tactical vision. As the summer transfer window progresses, it will be interesting to see if Liverpool can secure Zubimendi’s signature and how this potential signing will impact the team’s overall strategy and player roster.
