Heartbreaking news has emerged for Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard.

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard is reportedly on the brink of losing his role as head coach at Al Ettifaq after a series of disappointing results and revelations that his commitment to his former club Liverpool may be affecting his focus on his current job. The 44-year-old, once a prominent figure in the Premier League, has faced mounting difficulties in recent years as his managerial career struggles to gain traction. His time with Aston Villa was turbulent, ultimately ending in dismissal. Now, his position in the Saudi Pro League seems precarious, as Al Ettifaq’s management weighs the future of his tenure.

Gerrard has openly admitted to prioritizing Liverpool games, even adjusting his training sessions around them, an approach that reportedly did not sit well with Al Ettifaq’s officials. This admission, made on RedmenTV, appears to have worsened his standing with club leadership, who expected a full commitment to their Saudi side. His team’s performance has done little to offset concerns. Al Ettifaq has struggled this season, managing only three wins out of eight matches, with the team slipping to 10th place on the table. The club has only 11 points, trailing league leaders Al Hilal by 13 points, and is in a poor run of form without a victory in its last five games.

When Gerrard took over Al Ettifaq, there was hope his leadership would improve the team’s standings. Last season, the club had finished sixth but was still a long way from contending for the title, ending the season far behind champions Al Hilal. However, Gerrard’s first campaign has been far from the turnaround fans and club officials hoped for. The Saudi Pro League may be ranked 72nd in the world by TeamForm, but the competition has proven challenging for Gerrard, as it did during his time in England’s top tier.

Despite Gerrard’s difficulties, his former colleague Harry Redknapp recently suggested him as a potential manager for the England national team, though that position ultimately went to Thomas Tuchel. While some still hold faith in Gerrard’s potential, a further setback with Al Ettifaq could harm his reputation beyond repair.

Reports from The Sun indicate that Gerrard’s £15.2 million contract is at risk. Losing this position could leave Gerrard without an active role and further damage his credibility as a coach. His situation highlights the ongoing challenges he faces in his career after his successful playing days.
