“Paul Scholes Criticizes Manchester United Player for Poor Performance, with Ruud van Nistelrooy Agreeing”

Rasmus Hojlund endured a difficult performance in Manchester United’s Europa League win over PAOK, a match in which the Red Devils secured their first European victory in over a year. Despite the 2-0 scoreline, with Amad Diallo scoring both goals, the team’s overall performance lacked cohesion and inspiration, and Hojlund’s contribution was minimal.

Amad opened the scoring early in the second half with a header from a Bruno Fernandes cross and later doubled his tally with a well-placed shot after winning back possession, which took a slight deflection on its way in. While Amad’s clinical finishing stood out, the rest of the team, particularly Hojlund, struggled to make an impact. Positioned between Amad and Alejandro Garnacho, with Fernandes behind him, Hojlund had a quiet first half, managing only ten touches. His lack of involvement was noted by former United midfielder Paul Scholes, who criticized the striker’s inability to challenge the PAOK defense. Scholes believes Hojlund could improve with better coaching and a stronger partnership with Fernandes in the No. 10 role.

Scholes, speaking on TNT Sports, pointed out that, after United’s first goal, PAOK showed some moments of danger but that the game was ultimately well-controlled. However, he was disappointed with Hojlund’s performance, expressing hope that the young striker would grow under the guidance of a manager who believes in his potential. Scholes also emphasized the importance of Hojlund forging a strong partnership with Fernandes, noting that such relationships are key for a team’s attacking success. Ruud van Nistelrooy, the interim manager, agreed, observing that United’s positioning improved in the second half, but the crosses to Hojlund did not align with his runs, which hindered his ability to capitalize on opportunities.

Hojlund, who has only scored two goals in 11 games this season, has been affected by an early hamstring injury, which has likely contributed to his struggles. Late in the game, he was replaced by Joshua Zirkzee, who also failed to make an impact, underscoring United’s ongoing challenges in front of goal. The striker’s lack of influence in this match highlighted the team’s broader issues with finding rhythm and cohesion in their attacking play.

After the match, Hojlund shared a post on Instagram thanking the fans for their continued support and expressing his admiration for Amad’s performance. He wrote, “No witty caption tonight. Just wanna thank you guys for those chants. Never gets old, absolutely love it. Congrats @amaddiallo19, you deserved it.” Hojlund’s message of gratitude reflected his acknowledgment of the support from the fans, while also focusing on Amad’s individual success. Despite his own struggles, Hojlund’s commitment to improving and repaying the fans’ faith remains evident.
