A Liverpool player has shocked the club by disclosing his plans to leave to friends.

Caoimhin Kelleher, Liverpool’s backup goalkeeper, is reportedly planning to leave the club in 2025 to pursue regular first-team football elsewhere. The 25-year-old Irish international has expressed his desire to step into a starting role, a move he has reportedly shared with friends as he looks to advance his career beyond his current status at Anfield.

Since making his senior debut for Liverpool in 2019, Kelleher has been a dependable deputy to Alisson Becker, featuring in 55 matches and recording 19 clean sheets. Although his opportunities have been limited due to Alisson’s dominance as the first-choice goalkeeper, Kelleher has consistently impressed when called upon. His performances, especially during Alisson’s absences due to injuries or rotation, have showcased his talent and reliability.

In one of his most recent displays, Kelleher played a vital role in Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Aston Villa, producing several key saves in the first half. Such contributions have highlighted his quality, but the lack of consistent game time has seemingly strengthened his resolve to seek a new challenge. This decision follows a season where he has experienced the fulfillment of regular starts under manager Arne Slot, further fueling his ambition to secure a primary role elsewhere.

Reports from *Football Insider* indicate that Kelleher has communicated his intentions to depart Liverpool at the end of the current campaign. The club appears prepared for his departure, reportedly valuing the goalkeeper at a price range of £25 million to £30 million. With his contract running until 2026, Liverpool sees the 2025 summer transfer window as an opportune moment to facilitate a move. This timing aligns with the club’s plans to bring in a new goalkeeper, with Georgi Mamardashvili expected to join the squad.

Celtic has already been linked as a potential destination for Kelleher, and more clubs are likely to express interest in the coming months. His technical ability, composure under pressure, and proven track record make him an attractive option for teams seeking a reliable shot-stopper to anchor their defense.

For Kelleher, the next transfer window represents a crucial juncture in his career. Having honed his skills at Liverpool and gained valuable experience on a big stage, he is now determined to step out of Alisson’s shadow and establish himself as a first-choice goalkeeper. The summer of 2025 will likely mark the start of an exciting new chapter for the talented Irishman as he seeks to fulfill his potential at another club.
