“Ruben Amorim Targets Former Manchester United Midfielder to Kickstart Squad Overhaul with Approval from Sporting Director Dan Ashworth”

    adminBy adminNovember 23, 2024No Comments2 Mins Read

Ruben Amorim is reportedly eyeing Angel Gomes as one of his potential first signings if he becomes Manchester United’s new manager. According to *The Sun*, Amorim is aware of the club’s financial constraints over the upcoming transfer windows, following significant expenditures during Erik ten Hag’s tenure on players who have underperformed. With Gomes set to become a free agent next summer, the 24-year-old has emerged as a prime target for the Portuguese coach.

If the move materializes, it would mark a homecoming for Gomes, who began his career at United before leaving in 2020 in pursuit of greater first-team opportunities. Since departing Old Trafford, Gomes has made significant strides in his career, including earning his senior debut for the England national team earlier this year. Reflecting on his decision to leave United, Gomes explained, “There was a contract on the table for me, but my decision wasn’t about money. It was about the pathway I saw at Lille and the opportunities they offered.”

Currently playing for Lille in Ligue 1, Gomes is approaching the end of his contract, which is set to expire next summer. This has attracted the attention of not only Amorim but also key figures in football management such as sporting director Dan Ashworth and technical director Jason Wilcox. Both are reportedly keen on the idea of signing Gomes on a free transfer, viewing it as a low-risk, high-reward deal.

Gomes himself has indicated a willingness to return to his boyhood club, suggesting a move could be possible. Speaking recently about his emotional connection to United, he admitted, “There will always be a sentimental bond with the club, so of course, it would be difficult to turn down an opportunity to return.”

Gomes’ potential signing is seen as a strategic move by Amorim, who is aiming to strengthen the squad while navigating limited transfer funds. The midfielder’s development at Lille, where he has gained valuable experience in top-flight European football, makes him an attractive prospect for the club. Furthermore, bringing back an academy graduate who understands the culture of Manchester United could be a symbolic and practical step as the club looks to rebuild under new leadership. Whether the deal goes through remains to be seen, but the prospect of Gomes returning to Old Trafford is generating excitement among fans and insiders alike.
