“I’ve never admired a player like this before, but his performance yesterday made me appreciate him even more. It’s unfortunate Arteta doesn’t know how to manage him. If I had his talent in my team, I’d be topping the league by now,” says Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo as he reveals the ONE Arsenal player he wishes he could have—Not Saka, Not Trossard.

Ethan Nwaneri exudes the confidence of a player who not only believes but seemingly knows he is destined for greatness, regardless of the level of football he finds himself in. Whether competing for Arsenal’s Under-21s, representing England’s Under-19s, or facing off against teams in League One, the Championship, or the Premier League, Nwaneri never appears out of place. His composure and assured presence on the pitch are striking for someone so young.

One image that fans are becoming accustomed to is Nwaneri raising his index finger in celebration after scoring. Though not yet a signature move, it is becoming a familiar sight. The gesture, understated but confident, reflects a player who already seems aware that his journey is only beginning. If his recent performances are anything to go by, that confidence is well-founded.

Since making his debut start in the Carabao Cup against Bolton, Nwaneri has scored four goals for Arsenal, each highlighting a different aspect of his skill set. In a recent match against Nottingham Forest, he demonstrated his instinct for seizing opportunities to influence games. Every time he steps onto the pitch, there’s a sense that he’s destined to create a memorable moment—and against Forest, there were several.

With 20 minutes left on the clock, Nwaneri was brought on as a substitute and wasted no time in making his presence felt. Almost immediately, he attacked the right half-space—a zone he seems to have claimed as his own—driving past two defenders with impressive ease. Cutting onto his left foot, he unleashed a curling shot that narrowly missed the target. It was the kind of play that showcased his growing belief that his first Premier League goal is just around the corner.

Earlier in the season, a similarly incisive run had set the stage for an assist against Leicester City. On that occasion, Nwaneri once again surged into the right half-space, spotting and exploiting gaps that others struggle to close down. His vision and timing allowed him to play a precise pass to Raheem Sterling, who cleverly stayed just beyond the defenders’ attention. Sterling then cut the ball back, setting up an opportunity that Nwaneri finished with his now-familiar raised finger celebration.

Each time Nwaneri takes to the field, he demonstrates the intelligence, technique, and confidence of a player far beyond his years. His performances signal that these impactful cameos are only the prelude to a stellar career.
