“I need assurance…”: Victor Gyökeres expresses willingness to join Arsenal *on one condition* following promising discussions with Arteta.

Player and coaching staff movements within the Premier League often create a domino effect, with clubs aiming to avoid inadvertently strengthening their rivals. Manchester United’s recent appointment of Ruben Amorim, announced on Friday afternoon, is a decision that is likely to please the Old Trafford faithful. However, it could also have unforeseen consequences, potentially paving the way for Arsenal to acquire one of Europe’s most in-form strikers.

According to *O Jogo*, Amorim’s departure from Sporting Lisbon midway through the 2024/25 campaign has unsettled several players in the squad. One of the key figures reportedly affected is Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres, who had been a priority target for Arsenal and other top clubs during the summer transfer window.

Gyökeres is believed to feel let down by Amorim’s decision to leave Sporting at this stage of the season. Having remained loyal to the coach and the Portuguese side when bigger opportunities presented themselves, the striker had expected similar loyalty in return. Now, with that trust seemingly broken, the 26-year-old is likely to reassess his options for the next phase of his career.

Previously, Gyökeres had garnered interest from Brighton before making the move to Coventry City, where he impressed over 116 appearances, scoring 43 goals and providing 17 assists. His subsequent transfer to Sporting Lisbon, despite links to lower-tier Premier League clubs, turned out to be a brilliant decision. During his time in Portugal, he has flourished, becoming a league champion and scoring an impressive 59 goals in 65 matches. His performances have caught the attention of Arsenal, alongside other top clubs across Europe.

Arsenal, however, may need to put in significant effort to convince Gyökeres that the Emirates is the ideal destination for him. The Swedish forward’s professionalism, especially amidst the upheaval surrounding Amorim’s exit, is something Mikel Arteta will likely admire. His consistency and ability to deliver in crucial moments make him a prime candidate to bolster Arsenal’s attacking options.

Sporting Lisbon reportedly included an £84 million release clause in Gyökeres’ contract, though recent reports suggest the club might entertain offers between £51 million and £59 million. While Arsenal are keen on securing the striker, they face stiff competition from Manchester United, who may use Amorim’s presence as leverage. Other Premier League giants, including Manchester City, Liverpool, and Chelsea, are also rumored to be monitoring the situation closely, setting the stage for a competitive race to land one of Europe’s hottest talents.
