Former Manchester United assistant coach Steve Round has expressed confidence in Ruben Amorim’s ability to steer the club in the right direction but highlighted the importance of patience during the process. The Portuguese manager succeeded Erik ten Hag last month and has made an encouraging start to his tenure, securing victories in two of his first three matches. His most recent triumph came in a commanding 4-0 win over Everton, a result that propelled United to ninth place in the Premier League standings.
Round, who is now 54, reflected on his own experiences at Old Trafford, where he worked as an assistant to David Moyes following Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013. However, their stint at the club was brief, as both Moyes and his backroom team, including Round, were dismissed in April 2014 after less than a season in charge.
Drawing from his time at United, Round stressed the need for the club’s management and fans to provide Amorim with adequate time to implement his ideas and shape the team. He believes that building long-term success requires stability and consistency, two qualities that United struggled to maintain following Ferguson’s departure. Round remains optimistic about Amorim’s potential to guide the team to a brighter future.
