Trent Alexander-Arnold’s exit from Anfield seems more probable, with Liverpool opening negotiations for a €40m-rated talent as his potential replacement next summer.

Liverpool are already preparing for the possibility of life without Trent Alexander-Arnold, despite their strong desire to retain the star defender amid increasing interest from Real Madrid. The club is currently in the midst of a crucial phase to secure the futures of their key players, with Alexander-Arnold’s situation drawing particular attention. According to David Ornstein of *The Athletic*, Liverpool have presented the right-back with fresh contract terms to fend off interest from overseas clubs, who could potentially begin pre-contract negotiations as early as January.

This urgency has been heightened by an injury setback elsewhere in the squad, with one Liverpool player reportedly ruled out for the rest of the year. This development has underlined the importance of bolstering the team and ensuring the retention of their top players. Alongside Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool are also working to extend contracts for other pivotal figures like Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, but time is running out as the transfer window approaches.

In a parallel effort, Liverpool are intensifying their interest in Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong as a potential successor to Alexander-Arnold. Talks with the Dutch fullback’s camp appear to be progressing, with Christian Falk of *CaughtOffside* reporting that Frimpong’s agent, Dirk Hebel, was recently spotted attending a Liverpool match. This suggests that discussions between the player’s representatives and the club have reached an advanced stage.

Frimpong, a 24-year-old Dutch international, has been one of Europe’s standout fullbacks. He recorded an impressive 26 goal contributions in the previous season and has already registered nine this campaign. His attacking prowess and dynamic style of play have established him as a rising star in world football, making him an appealing target for Liverpool as they consider future options for their right-back position.

One of the factors that make Frimpong an attractive option for Liverpool is his relatively modest release clause of €40 million (£33 million). Such a fee could represent excellent value for a player of his caliber and potential, particularly if Alexander-Arnold were to leave the club. Liverpool’s proactive approach in pursuing Frimpong underscores their ambition to remain competitive while preparing for any unexpected twists in the transfer market.

While Liverpool remain optimistic about retaining Alexander-Arnold, their interest in Frimpong reflects a well-thought-out strategy to strengthen the squad and ensure continuity in key positions, regardless of the challenges that may arise in the coming months.
