BREAKING NEWS: Man United owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe clarifies the club’s decision on Ruben Amorim’s dismissal, leaving fans stunned.

Ruben Amorim, the head coach of Manchester United, has openly admitted feeling “embarrassed” by the team’s current state and even acknowledged that relegation is a real possibility. His remarks came after United’s 2-0 defeat to Newcastle at Old Trafford on Monday night, a game that highlighted the club’s ongoing struggles.

Newcastle took control early in the match, with Alexander Isak and Joelinton scoring within the first 19 minutes. These early goals secured United’s third consecutive home defeat, a dismal record the club has not experienced in 45 years. The loss also marked United’s fifth Premier League defeat in December, a level of failure not seen in a single month since September 1962.

As 2024 draws to a close, Manchester United finds itself in 14th place in the Premier League table. With only six wins and nine losses in the first half of the season, their form has been more akin to a team battling for survival than a club traditionally competing at the top. The first match of 2025, an away fixture against Liverpool at Anfield, now looms large as the Red Devils desperately seek to reverse their fortunes.

Amorim did not shy away from the harsh realities of their situation. When asked about the prospect of relegation, the Portuguese coach was candid: “I think that it is a possibility. We have to be clear with our fans.” He went on to accept responsibility for the team’s poor performances, stating, “It is also my fault. The team is not improving. It is a little bit lost in this moment, and it is a bit embarrassing to be Manchester United coach and lose a lot of games.”

Amorim acknowledged the growing frustration among supporters, emphasizing that excuses would no longer suffice. “I think people are tired of excuses at this club. This club needs a shock,” he said.

Reflecting further on their current predicament, Amorim described it as one of the darkest periods in the club’s history. He highlighted the difficulty of turning things around, especially with limited time to instill the foundational principles needed for consistent improvement. “In bad situations, you need that base to hold on to,” he explained. Despite some effort from the team in the second half, Amorim admitted it was more about individual determination than cohesive team play.

The coach’s frank assessment underscores the gravity of United’s struggles and the urgent need for change as the team faces mounting pressure to avoid an unthinkable relegation.
