Elon Musk Announces Acquisition of Premier League Club

    adminBy adminJanuary 11, 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Reports suggesting Elon Musk’s interest in purchasing Liverpool FC have caused unease among the club’s supporters, but journalists have moved to calm these fears. The billionaire entrepreneur’s father recently mentioned in a radio interview that his son “would like to” acquire the historic football club, adding it to his portfolio, which already includes Tesla and X (formerly Twitter). However, early indications suggest such a takeover is highly improbable.

Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol addressed the rumors, firmly stating that Liverpool’s current owners, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), have no plans to sell the club and have not been approached by Musk or his representatives. “Liverpool are not for sale,” Solhekol clarified. He emphasized that despite speculation, FSG has not received any offers from Musk. Although the ownership group sought external investment around two and a half years ago, no deals were finalized. Principal owner John Henry has previously acknowledged that FSG will not own Liverpool indefinitely, but there is currently no sign they are prepared to part ways with the club.

While Musk’s extraordinary wealth might allow him to make an offer, Solhekol noted that his controversial public image could clash with Liverpool’s values and the ethos of its fanbase. Nonetheless, if Musk pursued ownership seriously, it is likely he would meet the Premier League’s requirements for potential owners.

This update aligns with a recent report by *The Times* journalist Matt Lawton, who also affirmed that FSG has no interest in selling Liverpool FC. Although the ownership group has faced criticism from a section of fans—often visible through the hashtag #FSGOUT on social media—the idea of Musk taking over the club has sparked significant opposition. Many Liverpool fans disapprove of Musk’s political leanings, including his support for Donald Trump and controversial figures like Tommy Robinson, which they view as inconsistent with the club’s traditionally socialist values.

Despite some grievances during FSG’s tenure, their leadership has brought about undeniable progress. Since taking charge 14 years ago, they have overseen a 33% increase in Anfield’s capacity, built a cutting-edge training facility, and guided the club to sustained success on the pitch, including major domestic and European triumphs.

Although Musk’s financial clout could theoretically tempt FSG if he were to make a concrete offer, the prospect of such a takeover remains speculative at best. For now, Liverpool fans can take comfort in knowing that the rumors surrounding Musk’s interest are unlikely to materialize anytime soon.
