Former French international Bacary Sagna has put forward the idea that Paul Pogba might have the opportunity to return to Manchester United for a third spell, particularly given the appeal of working under the club’s new manager, Ruben Amorim. Currently unattached after leaving Juventus, Pogba is eager to rejuvenate his career following a tumultuous period that has cast uncertainty over his future in professional football.
The 2018 World Cup-winning midfielder recently reached a mutual agreement with Juventus to terminate his contract, ending his second stint with the Italian club. His return to Turin was largely underwhelming, as he managed to feature in just 12 matches. Pogba’s career trajectory took a significant hit in September 2023 when he was handed a four-year suspension after testing positive for a banned substance, which he had unknowingly consumed. The ruling severely affected his playing career and left his future hanging in the balance.
However, in a crucial development, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) later decided to reduce his suspension to 18 months, offering him a lifeline. As a result, Pogba became eligible to resume training in January 2024 and is expected to be available for competitive matches by March of the same year. This ruling has rekindled discussions about his potential return to top-level football, with speculation mounting over where he could restart his career.
Although Pogba is now 31, he remains a highly skilled and experienced player. His ability to influence a game with his vision, technique, and passing range continues to make him a sought-after talent. Sagna, a former Arsenal and Manchester City defender, believes that a move back to Old Trafford could be a realistic option for Pogba, particularly with the presence of Amorim at the helm.
