Former French international Bacary Sagna has hinted at the possibility of Paul Pogba making a sensational return to Manchester United for a third spell, particularly given the prospect of working under newly appointed manager Ruben Amorim. Pogba, who is currently a free agent, is looking to resurrect his career following a tumultuous period that has left doubts about his future in professional football.
The 2018 World Cup winner recently ended his contract with Juventus by mutual agreement, bringing an abrupt close to his second stint with the Italian giants. During this spell, Pogba struggled to make an impact, featuring in only 12 matches due to recurring injuries and off-field issues. His career took a severe hit in September 2023 when he was handed a four-year suspension for doping, a consequence of unknowingly ingesting a prohibited substance. However, after appealing the decision, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) reduced his ban to 18 months, making him eligible to resume training in January 2024 and return to competitive action by March of the same year.
Despite now being 31 years old, Pogba remains a highly skilled midfielder with immense potential. Sagna, a former defender for Arsenal and Manchester City, believes that a move back to Old Trafford is not out of the question. He suggests that the presence of Ruben Amorim as manager could be a major factor in enticing Pogba back to the club where he previously spent six years. Speaking in an interview with Mega Dice, Sagna emphasized Amorim’s understanding of top-level football and his ability to connect with players, which could create an environment where Pogba feels valued and motivated.
Sagna highlighted the transformation of Manchester United since Pogba’s last stint, noting that the club has evolved under new leadership and is taking a different approach. According to him, Amorim’s fresh and dynamic coaching philosophy could be exactly what Pogba needs to rediscover his best form. The former French defender also pointed out that Pogba shares a deep emotional connection with the club, despite his previous tenure being marked by inconsistency and unfulfilled expectations.
Although Pogba’s second spell with United did not go as planned, yielding only two trophies over six years, Sagna believes that the midfielder still has unfinished business at Old Trafford. If Amorim sees value in bringing him back, it could provide Pogba with the perfect opportunity to redeem himself and reignite his career at a club that has played a significant role in his footballing journey.
