“I’m prepared to resign if my conditions are not met… We can’t succeed without them. I’m sorry, but the fans are angry at me, and it’s not my fault”: Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim warns he may step down if the board refuses to meet his demands.

Manchester United is going through a tumultuous period, with head coach Ruben Amorim now issuing a firm ultimatum to the club’s board. The Portuguese manager has made it clear that he is prepared to resign if certain conditions are not met. Amorim took charge of United in November 2024, replacing Erik ten Hag, but his tenure has been fraught with difficulties both on and off the pitch.

One of Amorim’s biggest frustrations stems from the club’s financial struggles, which have hindered his ability to build the squad according to his vision. The dismissal of Erik ten Hag and sporting director Dan Ashworth came at a significant financial cost, with the club reportedly paying £14.5 million in compensation. These expenses contributed to an overall financial loss of £27.7 million in the final quarter of 2024. As a result, Manchester United’s spending power in the transfer market has been severely restricted, preventing Amorim from making the reinforcements he believes are necessary to improve the team’s performance. This lack of financial backing has led to tensions between the manager and the board, with Amorim feeling increasingly unsupported in his efforts to rebuild the squad.

Another major point of contention has been the handling of certain players, most notably Marcus Rashford. The English forward has found himself sidelined due to concerns over his performances in training, a situation that has only fueled speculation about his potential departure from the club. Rashford himself has hinted at a desire for a fresh start elsewhere, adding to the uncertainty surrounding his future. Amorim, who is already struggling to assert his authority amid the club’s internal chaos, sees the board’s lack of clarity and decisive action on Rashford’s case as yet another example of the management issues plaguing the club.

The troubles behind the scenes have been reflected in United’s performances on the pitch. The team has endured a dreadful season and currently sits in 15th place in the Premier League standings. Their most recent setback, a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham, marked their 12th league loss of the campaign. Fans have grown increasingly frustrated with the team’s poor form, and much of their anger has been directed at Amorim. Many supporters have openly criticized his tactical approach and his perceived inability to motivate the squad. In response, Amorim has publicly expressed his discontent, making it clear that he is not willing to continue under the current circumstances.

Speaking candidly about his situation, Amorim stated, “I am ready to step down if these conditions remain unchanged. Without the necessary support and resources, it is impossible to succeed. I understand the fans are upset with me, but the truth is that I am not to blame for these problems.” His remarks highlight the growing discord between the manager and the club’s hierarchy, raising serious doubts about his future at Old Trafford.
