Liverpool’s vice-captain, Trent Alexander-Arnold, has reportedly made the decision to join Real Madrid on a free transfer when his current contract with the Reds expires this summer. According to Sky Sports journalist Sacha Tavolieri, the England international has agreed to personal terms with the Spanish giants and is expected to sign a five-year contract with the club.

Speculation regarding Alexander-Arnold’s potential move to the Santiago Bernabeu has been ongoing for over a year, and it now appears that he has finalized his decision. Despite Liverpool’s efforts to secure a contract extension for their academy graduate, the right-back was determined to make the switch to Madrid. As a result, Liverpool has already begun preparing for his departure and is actively searching for a replacement.

At Real Madrid, Alexander-Arnold will be competing with Dani Carvajal for the starting right-back position. However, it is widely anticipated that he will eventually take over as the first-choice option for the Spanish side, particularly in the upcoming season.

The 26-year-old’s exit from Anfield marks the end of an incredible journey with the club, where he spent 21 years, progressing through the academy ranks to become one of the most influential players in Liverpool’s recent history. Throughout his time with the Reds, he made 349 appearances, scoring 22 goals and providing 87 assists. His contributions helped Liverpool secure eight major trophies, including the Premier League and Champions League titles.

As Liverpool prepares for life after Alexander-Arnold, they have reportedly identified Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong as a potential successor for the right-back role. The Dutchman has impressed in Germany and is considered one of the leading candidates to fill the void left by Alexander-Arnold’s departure.

Meanwhile, former Liverpool striker Michael Owen recently weighed in on the situation during an appearance on TalkSport. He discussed the implications of Alexander-Arnold’s possible move to Real Madrid, highlighting both the advantages and drawbacks of such a decision. Owen acknowledged that the defender has already won every major trophy with Liverpool, cementing his status as a club legend. From that perspective, a move to Madrid could offer him a fresh challenge in a different league.

However, Owen also pointed out that Liverpool remains one of the most competitive teams in European football, making the decision to leave a difficult one. With the club continuing to compete at the highest level, Alexander-Arnold’s departure will undoubtedly be felt by the team and its supporters.

Ultimately, the England international’s reported move to Real Madrid represents a significant shift in his career. After two decades at Liverpool, he is set to embark on a new chapter with the Spanish giants, where he will look to further establish himself among the world’s elite footballers.
