Significant breakthrough confirmed this afternoon in Florian Wirtz’s move to Liverpool.

Liverpool have significantly advanced their pursuit of German sensation Florian Wirtz, taking another decisive step that reflects the club’s serious intent to secure the talented playmaker. According to David Ornstein of *The Athletic*, Liverpool have now submitted an improved offer to Bayer Leverkusen worth up to €130 million (approximately £109 million). This latest bid includes a combination of a substantial guaranteed fee and performance-based add-ons, underscoring the Reds’ eagerness to secure Wirtz’s signature.

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder, who has been one of Europe’s standout performers this past season, is reportedly interested in making the move to Anfield. Sources close to the discussions suggest that Wirtz has already traveled to the northwest of England to explore potential housing options, which appears to have helped sway his preference in favor of Liverpool over Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich. This visit is being interpreted as a major signal of his intent and has given Liverpool a key advantage in negotiations.

Fabrizio Romano, a highly respected transfer expert, has described the move as “a matter of time,” indicating that the deal is nearing completion. Wirtz is expected to join his Leverkusen teammate Jeremie Frimpong, whose transfer to Liverpool is reportedly also close to being finalized. Manager Arne Slot is believed to be targeting the pair as central figures in his efforts to overhaul and enhance Liverpool’s attacking options.

Wirtz’s appeal lies not only in his current form but also in his versatility and long-term potential. Under Xabi Alonso at Leverkusen, he had a stellar campaign, contributing 16 goals and 15 assists across all competitions. His ability to operate in various attacking roles adds to his value, offering tactical flexibility that Slot is expected to make full use of. As the club shifts into a new era under Slot’s leadership, players like Wirtz fit perfectly into the vision of a dynamic and youthful side.

The German international, who already has 29 caps for his country, is viewed as a long-term successor to Mohamed Salah, who will turn 33 in June. With Salah approaching the latter stages of his peak years, Liverpool are planning for the future by targeting younger players capable of delivering both immediate impact and sustained excellence.

Wirtz’s technical skills, creativity, and flair make him an ideal candidate to fill the advanced midfield role where Dominik Szoboszlai has played. Though Szoboszlai had a decent season, Slot is reportedly seeking more consistent productivity in that position—something Wirtz has demonstrated in abundance. This potential transfer not only highlights Liverpool’s ambition but also reflects their strategic approach under Slot: acquiring top-tier young talent that can thrive in a fast-paced, adaptive system.
