“Out of Manchester United’s Control” — Fabrizio Romano Explains True Cause of Bryan Mbeumo Transfer Stalemate

Manchester United’s pursuit of Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo remains firmly on track, despite the lack of an official announcement. While supporters may be growing restless over the lack of progress, the delay isn’t due to any hesitation from United’s side. Instead, the holdup stems from Brentford, who are currently navigating several other pressing matters in the transfer market.

According to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United are continuing their efforts to bring Mbeumo to Old Trafford and are optimistic about striking a deal soon. Romano, writing in his GiveMeSport newsletter, clarified that the main cause of the delay lies with Brentford. The London-based club is currently handling multiple transfer negotiations simultaneously, making it difficult for them to focus fully on the Mbeumo talks.

So far, Brentford have turned down two offers from United — the first worth £55 million and the second, a slightly improved package that included an additional £7.5 million in add-ons. However, it’s clear that Brentford are not being difficult for the sake of it. They are reportedly dealing with other significant moves, including rejecting a recent bid from Nottingham Forest for forward Yoane Wissa and finalising Christian Nørgaard’s proposed switch to Arsenal. On top of that, the club is also preparing to announce the signing of Jordan Henderson from Ajax, with the former Liverpool captain opting not to extend his stay in the Netherlands.

These various negotiations have taken up Brentford’s attention, slowing down their ability to conclude a deal with Manchester United over Mbeumo. Nonetheless, Romano emphasized that the transfer is still very much “on.” United are eager to bring Mbeumo in as their third summer acquisition, following the earlier signings of Matheus Cunha and teenage talent Diego Leon.

There is also growing belief inside United that a resolution is near. Sources at the club indicate that a third and likely final bid is being prepared, one that is expected to meet Brentford’s expectations or come very close. Manager Rúben Amorim is said to be pushing for the deal to be completed before the club’s pre-season tour of the United States begins later this month. Mbeumo is envisioned as a key part of Amorim’s revamped attacking lineup, potentially partnering with Cunha and Joshua Zirkzee in a dynamic front three.

Adding to the urgency, Mbeumo himself is reportedly becoming increasingly impatient with the ongoing delay. He is scheduled to return to Brentford training next week, and his presence in the UK could help accelerate talks. With the clock ticking toward the new Premier League season, United are determined to get the deal over the line and integrate the winger into their squad as soon as possible.
