Cunha Hails Teammates Following 3–2 Win Over Fulham

Manchester United’s dramatic 3–2 victory over Fulham provided plenty of late drama and entertainment, but the most discussed moment came after the final whistle. Rather than focusing solely on the result, Matheus Cunha drew attention with a refreshingly candid assessment of his recent return to form, openly crediting Kobbie Mainoo as the driving force behind his improved output in front of goal.

The Brazilian forward did not shy away from explaining that his recent scoring run has been anything but accidental. Speaking after the match, Cunha highlighted the influence of Mainoo’s emergence in midfield, pointing to the youngster’s intelligence, composure and awareness as crucial factors in his own resurgence. He also praised Michael Carrick for being willing to listen and adapt, hinting that earlier tactical setups had not always played to his strengths. According to Cunha, Carrick’s readiness to tweak the system and place players in more natural roles has allowed him to express himself more freely and rediscover his confidence.

Those comments resonated strongly with supporters, many of whom had long believed Cunha was being underutilised earlier in the campaign. Against Fulham, he looked like a different player—quicker in his movement, sharper in his decision-making and far more decisive in dangerous areas. His performance suggested a forward playing with clarity and belief, qualities that had sometimes been missing before.

Central to that improvement was Mainoo’s influence in the middle of the park. The young midfielder dictated the tempo with remarkable calm, repeatedly finding pockets of space and threading passes through pressure. His timing and vision allowed United’s attackers to receive the ball in more threatening positions, and his growing understanding with Cunha was evident throughout the match. Together, they gave United’s attacking play a smoother rhythm and a greater sense of purpose.

As the team looks ahead, optimism is building around Old Trafford. The focus has already shifted to the upcoming showdown with Tottenham, with confidence spreading through the squad. There is a growing belief that if Mainoo can stay healthy and continue to control games, and if Cunha maintains his current form, United will carry a consistent goal threat into the weeks ahead.

For now, the Fulham win may be remembered not just for its excitement, but as a potential turning point—one that highlights how the right partnerships and tactical adjustments can quickly change a player’s fortunes.
