Manchester United Lodge Initial £100m Offer for Barcelona Star Following Michael Carrick’s Approval of First Summer Signing

Manchester United have sent a strong signal ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window after reports revealed the club has submitted an initial offer approaching £100 million for a high-profile Barcelona player. The proposed move is said to have the backing of Michael Carrick, whose influence is already being felt as United lay the groundwork for a major overhaul of the squad.

According to Spanish publication *Fichajes*, United are closely monitoring the situation surrounding Jules Koundé, with the French international identified as a potential target should the right opportunity arise. While the club’s primary focus is expected to be strengthening the midfield and adding a left-sided attacker, defensive reinforcements remain firmly on the agenda—especially if Champions League qualification is achieved.

With INEOS now overseeing football operations, Manchester United are in the midst of a broader structural reset. Recruitment strategy has shifted toward players who offer adaptability, technical quality, and tactical intelligence. In that regard, Koundé is viewed as an ideal fit. Though naturally a centre-back, the 27-year-old has excelled in a right-back role for both Barcelona and the French national team, showcasing speed, composure on the ball, and experience at the highest level of European football.

Koundé is under contract at Barcelona until 2030, but the Catalan club’s ongoing financial difficulties could make them receptive to significant offers. His market value is believed to be around €80 million, a figure United appear willing to test with a bold opening bid. Although Old Trafford is not currently short of options at right-back, Carrick’s reported endorsement suggests the club is prepared to pursue a top-level defensive signing if it aligns with long-term planning and overall squad balance.

The potential deal underlines United’s intent to act decisively and aggressively in the market, rather than waiting for rivals to move first. While nothing is yet finalised and negotiations remain at an early stage, the interest in Koundé highlights the club’s ambition to return to the elite level of European football.

As the summer window approaches, Manchester United are positioning themselves for what could be a defining period of recruitment—one that reflects a renewed sense of direction, authority, and ambition under their evolving leadership structure.
