Arsenal is reportedly aiming to secure the signing of Ivan Toney, an explosive striker who has an impressive tally of over 200 career goals. Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s manager, is considering offering one of the team’s regular players, Eddie Nketiah, as part of a potential exchange deal with Brentford.
Toney, currently playing for Brentford, is set to have 17 months left on his contract in January. He faced a lengthy ban due to breaching betting regulations, but this hasn’t diminished interest from top clubs like Arsenal, Tottenham, and Chelsea. Arsenal, however, seems to be the frontrunner in this race, with Arteta expressing the need for a clinical striker.
Brentford, aware of the growing demand for Toney, is reportedly seeking around £75 million for the 27-year-old striker. Arsenal, willing to meet this valuation, is also considering offering Eddie Nketiah in exchange to mitigate their initial expenditure. Nketiah, who made his debut for Arsenal in the 2017/18 season, has never been a regular starter, making him a potential candidate for a move to Brentford.
In light of Toney’s potential departure, Brentford is already exploring options to replace him, including players like Jonas Wind, Vangelis Pavlidis, and Marcos Leonardo. The prospect of acquiring Nketiah in the deal is viewed as a viable solution by Brentford and could benefit all parties involved.
Eddie Nketiah, a 24-year-old talent, has shown promise and was even called up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad. Despite signing a contract extension with Arsenal until summer 2027, Nketiah might seek more consistent playing time, especially if Toney joins Arsenal, potentially further reducing his opportunities.
