Chelsea’s Reece James faced consequences for admitting to inappropriate conduct towards a match referee during their game against Aston Villa. The Football Association (FA) imposed a one-game suspension and a fine of £90,000 on the team’s captain.
This admission came after an incident during a match where James, despite being injured, approached referee Jarred Gillett. The FA found him guilty of using abusive language and displaying inappropriate behavior towards the match official. An independent Regulatory Commission enforced the sanctions after a hearing, aligning with James’ initial absence due to injury.
The suspension coincides with a game he was already set to miss against Burnley. James is focused on recovering and aims to make a return after the international break. Additionally, Malo Gusto, who filled in at right-back, faced a three-game suspension due to a red card from the same match against Villa.
He will miss more games but is expected to return for the match against Arsenal following the international break.
