“£3M Sale of 6 ft 2 Arsenal Star a ‘Huge Mistake,’ Admits Arsenal Sporting Director Edu Gasper as Player’s Value Skyrockets 246%”

    adminBy adminOctober 5, 2023No Comments2 Mins Read

Arsenal’s decision to sell Bernd Leno for £3 million now appears to be a significant oversight, considering the remarkable increase in his value since leaving the club. The Gunners, a historically renowned club in English football, experienced a notable shift in their performance after Arsene Wenger’s departure, seeking to regain their former glory under new head coach Mikel Arteta. Arteta took a tough stance, parting ways with star players like Mesut Ozil, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, and Bernd Leno.

Leno, a German international and formidable goalkeeper, was a crucial addition to Arsenal’s squad. He demonstrated exceptional shot-stopping abilities and adapted swiftly to English football, providing much-needed stability in goal after Petr Cech’s declining form. Leno’s performances at the Emirates were remarkable, with his second year being particularly noteworthy, boasting a 7.11 average rating and 3.8 saves per game.

However, an unfortunate injury in 2020 shifted the dynamics, allowing Emiliano Martinez to shine as Arsenal’s goalkeeper. Eventually, Leno made a move to Fulham, where he has solidified his position as a top-tier goalkeeper in the Premier League. He has maintained an impressive 7.50 rating and an astounding 4.1 saves per game this season, gaining praise from renowned figures like Marco Silva.

While Arteta’s choice to bring in Aaron Ramsdale and David Raya aligns with the current team’s needs, the subsequent rise in Leno’s performance and value could leave a sense of regret regarding the fee received for his sale. Marco Silva’s acknowledgment of Leno as one of the league’s best goalkeepers reinforces the notion that Arsenal might have undersold a promising talent. The £3 million sale now appears significantly undervalued, considering Leno’s stellar performances and increased worth in the football world.
