Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli urges against signing a particular player, deeming them a flop and a potential financial drain. Martinelli expresses confidence in his ability to seamlessly fill the player’s position, suggesting a cost-saving opportunity for Arsenal.

Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli could be set for a significant positional shift, moving from his usual left-wing role to a central striker position. During a recent training session with the Brazilian national squad, Martinelli was observed operating as a centre-forward, positioned at the tip of a 4-2-3-1 system. This potential change comes as Arsenal has been linked with a move for a new striker in the upcoming January transfer window.

The 22-year-old forward has primarily played on the left wing for Arsenal, making only 16 appearances through the middle, most of which occurred during Unai Emery’s tenure. The training footage suggests that Selecao head coach Fernando Diniz is exploring Martinelli’s capabilities as a striker, placing him ahead of players like Vinicius Jr, Rodrigo, and Raphinha.

Gunners legend Martin Keown has previously advocated for Martinelli to be given a chance as a central striker, emphasizing the young forward’s natural goal-scoring ability. Keown believes that Martinelli’s central position could unlock his full goal-scoring potential, drawing parallels with successful inside forwards like Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

If Martinelli thrives in this new role, it could provide Arsenal with a cost-effective solution to their striking needs, potentially saving the club millions in transfer fees. The club has been rumored to be interested in Brentford’s Ivan Toney, who is valued at around £100 million. However, with Martinelli showcasing his prowess as a central striker, the need for such a high-priced transfer might be alleviated.
