“Thiago Silva Directly Attributes Chelsea’s Loss to Newcastle to a Player’s Poor Performance: Only 2 Completed Passes and Fewer Touches than the Goalkeeper”

    adminBy adminNovember 27, 2023No Comments2 Mins Read

Chelsea captain Reece James found support from his teammates after his red card in the 4-1 defeat to Newcastle, marking the team’s second dismissal of the season, the first being Malo Gusto against Aston Villa. Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea’s manager, criticized the performance as the worst since he took charge, attributing the slump to a lack of energy and connection with the game.

Newcastle, grappling with fitness issues, surprised with a win despite fielding 17-year-old Lewis Miley and welcoming back Almiron, Schar, and Isak from injury. Pochettino expressed disappointment and anger, acknowledging the need for self-blame after such a performance. He highlighted Chelsea’s failure to compete and labeled the victory for Newcastle as too simple.

Reece James, who received a red card for two yellow cards, took to social media to apologize for his ill-disciplined performance. Chelsea, after a slow start, responded with a Raheem Sterling free-kick but faltered in the second half, conceding two quick goals. Pochettino attributed these goals to immaturity and mistakes, acknowledging the difficulty of a comeback in a hostile environment.

Despite a strong performance, James’ red card added to Chelsea’s woes. He had earlier shown frustration towards Newcastle’s assistant coach, and teammate Silva acknowledged his own mistake on social media, admitting it hindered any chance of a comeback. Pochettino emphasized the team’s lack of energy and preparation, stating they didn’t compete in the manner required by the competition.

Fans expressed displeasure online, and Silva, devastated by the loss, apologized and urged everyone to gather courage and return stronger. Pochettino, when questioned about Silva’s mistake, redirected the focus to the team’s overall lack of readiness and energy for the game. The defeat marked a setback for Chelsea after a period of momentum, emphasizing the challenges they face moving forward.
