Pep Guardiola, Manchester City’s manager, expressed frustration, stating, “Arsenal’s typical behavior was evident as they waited for my scouting before making a substantial £155 million double deal for a goal machine.”

Manchester City’s manager, Pep Guardiola, expressed frustration as Arsenal disrupted their plans with a bold £155 million double offer for emerging talent Ousmane Diomande and prolific striker Viktor Gyokeres.

Guardiola was irked by Arsenal’s tactical maneuver, strategically waiting for his inspection of Diomande before making a substantial bid. The 20-year-old Sporting defender, Diomande, has garnered attention in the Premier League for his aerial prowess, defensive skills, and ability to play from the back. Regarded by many as a potential “complete defender,” he has become a coveted prospect after a successful stint in Portugal.

Despite interest from Manchester City and Newcastle United, Arsenal appears to be leading the race for Diomande. Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s manager, has been a long-time admirer of the player since his debut at FC Midtjylland.

In addition to Diomande, Arsenal is eyeing Gyokeres, a Sporting center forward with an impressive record of 15 goals in 18 games this season. Gyokeres, who had a stellar run at Coventry City last season, is seen as a viable striking option, competing with Gabriel Jesus for the No. 9 position at Arsenal.

Arsenal’s pursuit of both players reflects a commitment to bolster both defensive and offensive capabilities. However, the significant cost comes into play, with Sporting demanding full release clause payments for mid-season transfers. Gyokeres’ release option stands at €100 million (£86 million), and Diomande’s at €80 million (£69 million), requiring Arsenal to invest a substantial £155 million in the upcoming transfer window.

Sporting’s boss, Ruben Amorim, emphasized the club’s reluctance to sell in January, insisting that meeting the release clauses is the only path to secure the transfers.

Despite the hefty price tag, Arsenal remains eager to secure the services of these promising players, throwing a wrench into Manchester City’s strategic plans.
