“After netting my debut Premier League goal, I feel the need to speak out. Concealing my thoughts is no longer an option. As a recent addition to the senior team, I’m unafraid of contract termination, much like what happened to Cancelo,” reveals Rico Lewis in a post-match interview.

Rico Lewis experienced a mix of emotions after scoring his inaugural Premier League goal against Crystal Palace, as Manchester City ended up with a disappointing 2-2 draw. Despite City’s dominance and a 2-0 lead from Jack Grealish and Lewis, Crystal Palace made a comeback with goals from Jean-Philippe Mateta and a last-minute penalty kick by Michael Olise.

Expressing his disappointment, Lewis acknowledged the unexpected twists in football, stating, “It’s football, and stuff can happen that you don’t expect, and that’s what happened.” Although Lewis initially felt the joy of his goal, the overall outcome overshadowed the moment, leading him to remark, “It’s a positive in a negative; at the end of the day, we wanted the result and we’ve not got it.”

Manchester City’s recent struggles were highlighted, as this marked the fifth time in six Premier League games they failed to secure a victory. Looking ahead, Lewis shared his perspective on the upcoming Club World Cup semi-final against Urawa Red Diamonds, emphasizing the continuous challenges in football. He expressed determination, saying, “It’s another challenge, another game for us to react and show how good we are. That’s the good thing about football, there’s always another game.”

Lewis stressed the need for City to demonstrate their capabilities and secure the results they deserve, not only for external validation but, more importantly, for their own self-belief. Despite the setbacks, he maintained a positive outlook, recognizing the constant opportunities football presents to prove one’s worth.
