Jurgen Klopp’s decision to exclude a key City player from yesterday’s match, despite being physically prepared, sparked controversy online due to several errors in the Liverpool vs. Manchester United draw.

Liverpool’s recent performance has raised concerns about their upcoming match against Arsenal. Despite attempting 34 shots, they struggled to create meaningful scoring opportunities, in contrast to United’s efficiency with one chance out of six attempts. The offensive strategy appeared rushed, relying heavily on long-range and tight-angle shots, deviating from their typical approach.

Manager Jurgen Klopp seems to be shaping a “Liverpool 2.0,” evident in the inclusion of new midfielders Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo, and Ryan Gravenberch. Klopp made tactical moves, permanently placing Trent Alexander-Arnold in midfield and altering the formation to a 4-2-4, but this adjustment left openings for United to exploit.

A standout was United’s goalkeeper, Andre Onana, who effectively countered Liverpool’s high press with strategic short and long passes, targeting wide areas. Despite inconsistencies in long passes, Onana created attacking opportunities for United.

Liverpool’s switch to a 4-2-4 opened space for United to navigate the midfield and play long balls behind the defense, prompting Klopp to make further tactical adjustments. Despite dominating possession, Liverpool struggled to apply consistent pressure and lacked attacking flair.

While securing a point at Anfield may be viewed positively for United, considering recent setbacks and a Champions League exit, their football lacked fluency. However, they displayed improved organization, resilient defense, and a solid midfield partnership between Sofyan Amrabat and Kobbie Mainoo.

Liverpool’s midfield, particularly Szoboszlai and Gravenberch, showed signs of fatigue, requiring a resurgence in form. Klopp may need to rest them to rejuvenate their gameplay. Varane’s unexpected start on the left side was a surprise but contributed to a clean sheet, showcasing leadership qualities alongside Evans.

Erik ten Hag praised individual performances, such as Mainoo’s and Varane’s leadership. McTominay highlighted United’s character and emphasized the need to build on this performance. Klopp, while acknowledging disappointment, recognized positive aspects like the intense press and fan atmosphere. Looking forward, he emphasized navigating a tough fixture list and collecting enough points while maintaining a healthy squad.
