Barcelona Eyes January Move for £50 Million Arsenal Star Eager to Depart Emirates, Criticizing Mikel Arteta’s Coaching Approach

Barcelona is reportedly eyeing a January move for Arsenal’s Thomas Partey, contemplating a £50 million deal. Despite uncertainties about Arsenal’s willingness to part with the midfielder, Barcelona sees Partey as a potential replacement for their injured player, Gavi. However, financial constraints might limit Barcelona to a loan deal, according to President Joan Laporta.

Partey, a pivotal figure in Mikel Arteta’s plans for Arsenal, has faced injury challenges this season, prompting speculation about the club’s interest in signing a replacement like Joao Palhinha. Arteta envisions a formidable partnership between Partey and summer signing Declan Rice to stabilize the team.

While Barcelona acknowledges interest in other players such as Zubimendi and Merino, their pursuit of Partey faces hurdles, including reluctance from other clubs to engage with them. The Saudi Pro League, Juventus, and Barcelona are reportedly among the interested parties.

Despite Laporta confirming Barcelona’s interest in a January move, Arsenal’s likely insistence on a substantial fee rather than a mid-season loan could complicate the transfer. Additionally, conflicting reports about Arsenal’s stance on Partey’s departure add to the uncertainty surrounding the situation.

Partey’s tactical compatibility with Barcelona’s style, especially in the absence of the injured Gavi, makes him an attractive prospect for coach Xavi Hernandez. Still, the likelihood of a transfer before January remains slim. Arsenal’s hope for Partey’s return to action by the year’s end may influence their decision on whether to reinforce the midfield during the upcoming transfer window.
