Liverpool recently declined a significant £150 million offer for their 31-year-old star, Mohamed Salah, just before the Premier League transfer window closed on September 1st. Following the rejection, no further bids were presented before the conclusion of the Saudi Arabian transfer market six days later.
Michael Emenalo, the director of football for the Saudi Pro League, disclosed that Salah’s transfer request remains open for consideration.
In response to this, Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool’s manager, expressed surprise, stating, “You’re kidding me, yeah? A week after we’ve closed the transfer window, you make a request for information regarding the January transfer window. The fact that you cannot wait until December to ask these questions is something that should go without saying. For now, we will have to wait and see. At this moment, I am not concerned, at least not until that time comes.”
Klopp also addressed the situation of former captain Jordan Henderson in his pre-match comments ahead of Liverpool’s game against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Henderson had moved to Al-Ettifaq in the summer, expressing that he did not feel welcome at Liverpool.
Despite Henderson’s successful tenure with Liverpool, making 492 appearances and winning major championships, he left the club feeling unencouraged to stay. Klopp acknowledged Henderson’s contributions but emphasized the necessity of discussions about his role.
“I told him that I wanted to talk about it now rather than wake up one morning and find us fighting because I told him that he wouldn’t be commencing when he thought he would. The phrase ‘he doesn’t want me here’ materialized in Hendo’s thoughts and ears as a result of that,” Klopp explained.
While expressing a desire for Henderson to stay, Klopp admitted his inability to articulate the situation accurately, leading to Henderson’s departure. Klopp highlighted that there is no animosity between them.
The situations with Salah’s rejected offer and Henderson’s departure have introduced an element of uncertainty. Still, Klopp maintains focus on upcoming challenges with an optimistic outlook, emphasizing the need for patience and understanding in these matters.
The dynamics surrounding the team and potential developments in the upcoming transfer window are expected to be subjects of discussion in the coming weeks.
