Zinchenko emotional as £50 million Arsenal teammate poised to move to London rival in January, having already finalized personal terms with the board.

Crystal Palace has shown a keen interest in acquiring Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah during the current January transfer window, according to revelations by The Athletic journalist David Ornstein. Despite Nketiah’s variable presence in Arsenal’s starting lineup this season, he has demonstrated his prowess with six goals and four assists in 26 appearances. Ornstein disclosed that Palace had made an unsuccessful inquiry for the 24-year-old, but they persist with a “firm interest” in securing his services.

In a recent Q&A session by The Athletic, Ornstein addressed the ongoing transfer speculation, emphasizing that Arsenal has not signaled any intention to part ways with the English striker this month. However, he acknowledged that if such a stance were to change, Palace is ready to intensify their pursuit of Nketiah. Ornstein stated, “A midfielder to replace Cheick Doucoure seems plausible, as does a striker. They have a firm interest in Eddie Nketiah, but Arsenal has not indicated any desire to let him go. If that changes, I’d expect Palace to push hard.”

Despite Crystal Palace’s persistent interest, the current scenario suggests that Nketiah is unlikely to depart from Arsenal. The Gunners have been linked with a move for a prominent striker, with Brentford’s Ivan Toney being a primary target. However, securing a deal for Toney could pose financial challenges, with the Bees reportedly seeking close to £80 million, an amount Arsenal may find difficult to afford considering Financial Fair Play concerns.

While the pursuit of a marquee striker remains on Arsenal’s agenda, the likelihood of Nketiah leaving depends on various factors, including the availability of Toney and the financial dynamics involved. Presently, Nketiah appears to be a crucial part of Mikel Arteta’s plans, sharing playing time with Gabriel Jesus, and the manager continues to appreciate the qualities the young striker brings to the squad.

As the transfer window progresses, developments in Arsenal’s pursuit of a striker and potential outgoings, including Nketiah’s situation, could shape the club’s strategy for the remainder of the season. With financial constraints and the desire to bolster specific positions, Arsenal’s decision-making in the transfer market will undoubtedly be closely monitored in the coming weeks.
