Arsenal is reportedly preparing for a January move to sign former Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, currently playing for Al-Ittihad in the Saudi Professional League. Despite winning the 2022 Ballon d’Or, Benzema is reportedly unhappy in the Middle East and desires a return to Europe, with Arsenal and Chelsea both expressing interest.

The 36-year-old, second only to Cristiano Ronaldo in Real Madrid’s all-time scoring list with 354 goals, has become a target for Arsenal, led by manager Mikel Arteta. Seeking to bolster their attacking options alongside Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah, Arteta is determined to compete with Chelsea for Benzema’s signature at Stamford Bridge. However, Arsenal’s interest is conditional on securing Benzema through a loan arrangement.

While Arsenal was previously linked with Brentford’s Ivan Toney and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen in the current transfer window, financial constraints have hindered their pursuit. Similarly, Chelsea is facing budgetary limitations as they search for striking options, echoing Arsenal’s challenge in finding a suitable player within their financial constraints this month.

As the transfer saga unfolds, Benzema’s potential return to Europe has created a competitive scenario between Arsenal and Chelsea. Both clubs, aware of their financial limitations, are navigating the intricate landscape of securing a top-notch striker to strengthen their positions in the Premier League. Whether Benzema, the seasoned striker, will make a return to European football with Arsenal or Chelsea remains to be seen as the January transfer window progresses.
