Jurgen Klopp confirmed on Sunday that Mohamed Salah would return to the UK for treatment but expressed optimism about his potential participation in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) if Egypt progresses in the tournament. However, Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas, provided a different perspective on Monday, suggesting that the injury would sideline the Liverpool striker for 21-28 days, potentially ruling him out of AFCON.

Despite Klopp’s initial plan for Salah’s rehabilitation with Liverpool, Abbas emphasized the severity of the injury, indicating that the recovery process might extend beyond the initial expectations. The agent expressed hope for Salah to join the national team once fully fit, hinting at a possible return to AFCON.

Looking at the AFCON schedule, the group stage concludes on January 24, followed by the round of sixteen from January 27-30. Salah’s potential absence could impact Egypt’s performance in subsequent stages, including the quarterfinals on February 2-3 and the semifinals on February 7. If Egypt advances to the final, Klopp acknowledged the possibility of Salah returning if he regains fitness.

Simultaneously, Salah’s absence poses a challenge for Liverpool in upcoming fixtures. Notable matches include a Carabao Cup clash against Fulham on January 24 and Premier League encounters with Chelsea on January 31, Arsenal on February 4, and Burnley on February 10. Klopp faces strategic decisions regarding squad selection and managing Liverpool’s performance in Salah’s absence.

In Klopp’s post-match comments after Liverpool’s 4-0 victory over Bournemouth, he outlined the tentative plan for Salah’s return but remained uncertain about the details. Klopp emphasized ongoing communication with the team’s doctor, expressing confidence in Salah’s eventual return.

Responding to questions about the possibility of Salah rejoining Egypt for the latter stages of AFCON, Klopp acknowledged the uncertainty, deferring to medical considerations. If Egypt reaches the final and Salah regains fitness, Klopp indicated a potential green light for Salah’s participation, underlining the significance of the tournament.

Klopp’s remarks also touched on the challenges faced by players participating in AFCON, emphasizing the importance of proper care and support from their respective nations. While Klopp’s initial plan involved Salah’s rehabilitation with Liverpool, the evolving situation prompts ongoing assessment and adaptation to ensure the player’s well-being.

As the AFCON unfolds and Liverpool navigates crucial fixtures, the football community watches eagerly to see whether Mohamed Salah will recover in time to make a significant impact on both fronts.
