Amadou Onana of Everton is reportedly contemplating a move to Arsenal, although financial constraints may impede any potential transfer during this winter window, according to Het Nieuwsblad. Despite Arsenal’s interest in the Belgian international, they have yet to present a formal proposal. Ongoing talks with Everton reveal that the club is seeking a minimum of €70 million for the talented midfielder.

Arsenal’s financial limitations pose a challenge to aggressively pursue Onana’s signing, even though he is recognized as one of the Premier League’s standout defensive players. His impressive statistics this season, including 2.6 tackles, 7.1 duels, and 6.6 ball recoveries per appearance, highlight his contributions. Onana’s prowess in aerial challenges and takeovers further solidifies his value.

While Onana could potentially complement Declan Rice in Arsenal’s midfield, the likelihood of a deal materializing this month remains uncertain. Premier League clubs are exercising caution in adhering to Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules, making significant transfers a challenging prospect. Arsenal initially sought to reinforce their midfield with Thomas Partey, but concerns about his prolonged injury have raised doubts about his reliability.

Considering the financial landscape and the cautious approach of Premier League clubs toward FFP rules, a substantial transfer in this window seems improbable. Last winter, top-flight clubs collectively spent €726 million on signings, but this figure has dramatically plummeted to €39 million due to apprehensions about potential point deductions.
