Sevilla has taken the decision to exclude Hannibal Mejbri, currently on loan from Manchester United, from their squad selections following reports of a training session confrontation with teammate Mariano. The incident, rumored to have extended into the locker room, has led to Mejbri’s indefinite exclusion from the squad.
The 21-year-old midfielder, on loan to Sevilla until the season’s end with a potential permanent move option, made his debut as a substitute in a 5-1 defeat against Girona. However, he was conspicuously absent from Sevilla’s recent Copa del Rey match against Atletico Madrid.
Addressing the situation, Sevilla’s manager, Quique Sanchez Flores, emphasized the importance of Mejbri grasping the significance of being at Sevilla and understanding the implications. Flores stressed that young players like Mejbri need time and external perspective before reintegrating into the squad, particularly given the demanding environment.
Reports from Mundo Deportivo suggest that Mejbri’s exclusion is tied to a clash with Mariano during a training session, with speculation indicating that the disagreement extended beyond the field into the locker room. Mariano, too, was absent from the midweek cup defeat against Atletico, with Flores citing fitness concerns for his non-involvement.
Flores clarified, stating, “Mariano is not going to play today either; he has physical problems. He is a boy whom we see in training with difficulties moving, to do the things we want. He came to talk to us this week and told us that he did not have a good feeling, who was not feeling well. He is a boy who is not one hundred percent, and we cannot have him called up.”
