Luke Shaw’s potential season-ending injury creates a significant setback for Manchester United, leaving them without a recognized left-back and affecting both manager Erik ten Hag and England coach Gareth Southgate ahead of Euro 2024.

Manchester United faces a substantial setback as Luke Shaw will miss upcoming matches against Brazil and Belgium, intensifying the challenges for manager Ten Hag, who has grappled with multiple injuries this season, particularly in the defensive department. Shaw’s absence exacerbates an already injury-stricken squad.

Adding to the defensive woes, Lisandro Martinez will be out for about eight weeks due to a knee muscle injury, creating a void in the defensive lineup. The absence of both Shaw and Martinez compounds the challenges faced by Ten Hag.

Replacing Shaw proves to be a formidable task for United, given the limited options in the left-back position. Tyrell Malacia, the usual choice, has been sidelined for the entire season due to knee surgery, facing setbacks in his rehabilitation. Moreover, the premature termination of Sergio Reguilon’s loan from Tottenham limits defensive choices for United.

Victor Lindelof and Sofyan Amrabat have struggled to adequately fill Shaw’s shoes, leaving the team in a significant defensive dilemma. The severity of Shaw’s muscle injury requires further assessment, with indications suggesting he might be sidelined for an extended period, possibly several months.

This setback compounds United’s existing injury concerns, presenting a considerable challenge for Ten Hag as he navigates a demanding fixture schedule. The team is grappling with a depleted defensive lineup, and the manager faces the daunting task of finding suitable replacements amidst the ongoing challenges. As United contends with the absence of key players, including Shaw and Martinez, the road ahead appears to be even more challenging for Ten Hag and his injury-ridden squad.
