According to Bacary Sagna, former Arsenal and Manchester City defender, Malo Gusto of Chelsea possesses the potential to dominate the Premier League as a right-back. Chelsea secured Gusto from Lyon for £26.3 million just over a year ago, and due to Reece James’ injuries, the 20-year-old has enjoyed more playing time than initially anticipated this season.

Gusto has impressed as one of Chelsea’s standout players recently, prompting Sagna to suggest that the French defender has the capabilities to become the best in the Premier League. Sagna remarked that it’s beneficial for Chelsea to have Gusto and Reece James competing for the right-back position, praising Gusto’s speed, agility, and proficiency in one-on-one situations. He noted that Gusto performed commendably at Lyon, making his success at Chelsea unsurprising given his skill set.

While Gusto has been performing well, Sagna believes he can reach even greater heights in the upcoming seasons, particularly as Chelsea undergoes a rebuilding phase. Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea’s manager, acknowledged Gusto’s growing importance to the team, citing circumstances where the young player had to step up earlier than expected due to injuries. Pochettino emphasized the need for Gusto to adapt to life in a new league, country, and club while dealing with occasional injuries.

Despite setbacks, Pochettino expressed optimism about Gusto’s development, highlighting his attacking prowess and potential for improvement in other areas. He acknowledged the need for Gusto to become more dependable with consistent playing time and expressed satisfaction with his progress and attitude. Pochettino praised Gusto’s quality in moving forward, noting areas for improvement but expressing confidence in his continued growth.

In summary, Bacary Sagna and Mauricio Pochettino both see immense potential in Malo Gusto to excel as a right-back in the Premier League, emphasizing his speed, skill, and adaptability. With continued development and consistent playing time, Gusto has the opportunity to establish himself as one of the league’s top performers.
