Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp remains unperturbed by the prospect of forward Mohamed Salah becoming a target for Saudi teams in the January transfer window. Despite rejecting a £150 million bid for Salah in September, the director of football for the Saudi Pro League, Michael Emenalo, suggested that a transfer is still possible. Klopp, however, responded with a touch of incredulity, emphasizing the untimeliness of such inquiries after the closure of the transfer window.
Expressing his lack of concern, Klopp affirmed that he hadn’t dwelled on the matter and would wait to see how the situation unfolds in January. Regarding the earlier bid, Klopp’s nonchalance remained evident, stating, “I’m not concerned, no.”
Switching gears, Klopp addressed comments made by former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson, who had recently claimed that he did not feel welcome at the club before his move to Al-Ettifaq in the summer. Henderson had expressed that the situation might have been different had he felt a desire from the club for him to stay.
Klopp acknowledged Henderson’s honesty, recounting discussions they had about the midfielder’s playing time amidst new acquisitions in the summer transfer window. Klopp acknowledged that while he wanted Henderson to stay, they needed to address the possibility of reduced playing time. Klopp recounted expressing to Henderson the importance of open communication and the potential scenario of not starting as frequently.
Despite Henderson’s perception that Klopp might not have wanted him, Klopp emphasized that there was no animosity and praised Henderson as a great player and person. Klopp shared that he had been unable to convey his desire for Henderson to stay and play a significant role due to the complexities of the situation.
