The head of the Saudi Pro League, Michael Emenalo, has expressed interest in bringing Manchester City’s star midfielder, Kevin De Bruyne, to Saudi Arabia. Emenalo, in a recent interview with Sky Sports, mentioned several top players, including De Bruyne, as potential targets for the Saudi Pro League.
Emenalo highlighted that players of the caliber of Mo Salah, Lionel Messi, Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Kevin De Bruyne are players they are willing to consider if they become available. This follows a trend of European players, like Riyad Mahrez, making moves to Saudi clubs during the summer transfer window.
De Bruyne, who joined Manchester City from Wolfsburg in 2015 for £55 million, has been a pivotal figure, making 358 appearances, scoring 96 goals, and providing 153 assists. The Belgian midfielder has been a key contributor to Manchester City’s success, securing five Premier League titles and earning numerous awards.
As of now, De Bruyne’s contract with Manchester City is set to expire in the summer of 2025. Emenalo sees the upcoming summer transfer window as a potential opportunity for a Saudi club to make a move for the talented midfielder if City decides not to offer him a new contract.
Considering De Bruyne’s significance to the team and Pep Guardiola’s acknowledgment of his importance, there is a suggestion that Manchester City should extend his contract to keep him beyond the current deal. This would not only secure the player’s future at the Etihad Stadium but also thwart any potential interest from Saudi clubs looking to lure him to the Middle East.
