Acquiring the Premier League manager’s services will require Liverpool to expend £8.5 million.

Liverpool is actively seeking a seasoned manager to succeed Jurgen Klopp for the upcoming season, with Roberto De Zerbi emerging as a prominent contender. De Zerbi, recognized for his successful stint at Brighton where he guided the team to Europa League qualification last season, is also being considered by Barcelona as a potential successor to Xavi Hernandez, who is set to depart at the end of the current season.

Renowned Italian journalist Gianluigi Longari has thrown his weight behind De Zerbi for the Liverpool job, highlighting his ability to align with the playing philosophies of both Liverpool and Barcelona. At 44 years old, De Zerbi’s contract with Brighton is due to expire in the summer of 2026, but acquiring his services would necessitate meeting an £8.5 million release clause.

Another strong candidate linked to the Liverpool managerial position is Xabi Alonso, a revered figure in the club’s history. Currently at the helm of Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, Alonso brings considerable experience and success to the table. However, replacing Jurgen Klopp, who is regarded as one of the top managers globally, presents a substantial challenge for both Alonso and De Zerbi alike.

The potential appointment of either De Zerbi or Alonso underscores Liverpool’s ambition to maintain their competitive edge and uphold their distinctive playing style. As Klopp’s tenure nears its end, the club faces the task of ensuring a smooth transition to a new managerial era while sustaining their reputation as a force in European football.

Ultimately, the decision rests on Liverpool’s hierarchy, who must carefully weigh the candidates’ credentials, compatibility with the club’s ethos, and their ability to build on Klopp’s legacy. Whether it’s De Zerbi, Alonso, or another candidate, the next Liverpool manager will inherit a team with high expectations and the challenge of maintaining their status among football’s elite.
