Anfield Braces for Major Changes as Nine Players Could Exit Before Transfer Deadline

    adminBy adminJanuary 25, 2025No Comments2 Mins Read

The countdown to the January transfer deadline is underway, though this season it falls slightly later than usual—on Monday, February 3, at 11 p.m. Despite the anticipation, activity among Premier League clubs has been relatively subdued, a trend increasingly influenced by the league’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.

One notable exception has been Manchester City, who have spent significantly to bolster their squad and address areas of concern. In contrast, Liverpool appears unlikely to make any major signings before the window closes. While the Reds are no strangers to surprising late-window deals—such as the unexpected signing of Luis Díaz three years ago—a major incoming transfer seems improbable this time. Instead, the club is expected to focus on outgoings in the final days of the window.

Although Liverpool’s key players Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Virgil van Dijk are in the final months of their contracts, none of the trio are expected to leave during this window. Despite stalled contract extension talks, all three players are reportedly committed to seeing out their current deals at Anfield.

Some movement has already taken place this month. Academy goalkeeper Marcelo Pitaluga has returned to Fluminense in Brazil, while young midfielder Tom Hill has completed a permanent move to League Two side Harrogate Town. However, it is unlikely that Wataru Endo or Federico Chiesa, both of whom have been gaining more playing time recently, will depart this month. Similarly, Liverpool has no intention of entertaining offers for Darwin Núñez, despite reported interest from Saudi Arabia and AC Milan.

One decision that may arise is regarding Tyler Morton. The 22-year-old midfielder has struggled for regular Premier League action and has hinted that he may prioritize his development elsewhere if a suitable permanent offer materializes. Beyond that, most potential departures are expected to be loan moves.

Calvin Ramsay, for instance, has been recalled from his loan spell at Wigan Athletic and sent to Kilmarnock for the remainder of the season. Rhys Williams will stay on loan at Morecambe until the summer, while Kaide Gordon, who has returned from Norwich City, has attracted interest from other Championship clubs. Youngsters Jayden Danns and James McConnell, who have recently featured for the first team, could also be loaned out if the right opportunities arise. Danns, in particular, has caught attention with his goal during Liverpool’s FA Cup victory over Accrington Stanley.
