Liverpool is reportedly poised to break the British transfer record as they scout for a replacement for Mohamed Salah, recent reports indicate.
According to Spanish outlet Sport, Liverpool is considering Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr. as a potential successor to Salah should he depart Anfield. Alongside Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool is willing to offer a significant £171 million to secure the Brazilian winger’s services.
However, Real Madrid is purportedly eager to extend Vinicius’ contract for another five years, demonstrating their desire to retain him. Vinicius Jr. has had an impressive season, tallying 18 goals and 8 assists in 28 appearances for Real Madrid.
Despite Liverpool’s interest, Real Madrid appears hesitant to part ways with Vinicius. The potential departure of Salah is a significant concern for Liverpool, particularly after turning down a £150 million bid from Al Ittihad last summer.
With Salah’s contract set to expire in 2025 and uncertainties surrounding Jurgen Klopp’s future, there’s speculation that Salah may seek a new challenge in the upcoming transfer window.
Liverpool’s sporting director, Michael Edwards, is reportedly prioritizing contract extensions for key players such as Virgil van Dijk, Mo Salah, and Trent Alexander-Arnold. However, if negotiations with Salah prove unsuccessful, Liverpool may contemplate selling him rather than risking losing him for free next year.
Despite the transfer rumors, Salah continues to excel for Liverpool, boasting 22 goals and 13 assists in 34 appearances this season, maintaining his outstanding record since joining the club.
