Arne Slot aims to strengthen Liverpool’s midfield in their pursuit of a treble by signing a €60m Real Madrid star in January, with Madrid reportedly willing to sell after recent disappointing performances.

Liverpool has reportedly made recent contact with Real Madrid regarding the potential transfer of their French midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni. The 23-year-old has established himself as a valuable asset at the Bernabeu, where he has shown his talent and played a key role in midfield. Renowned transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has previously described Tchouameni as a “top player” who is central to Madrid’s plans. However, current reports indicate that Real Madrid could consider letting Tchouameni go, provided they receive an appropriate offer.

Liverpool is interested, with journalist Sacha Tavolieri suggesting that the Reds may be contemplating a bid in the region of €60 million for the former AS Monaco star. The Premier League club sees Tchouameni as a player who could enhance their midfield. Given Liverpool’s current squad, he would bring a mix of youth, skill, and experience, making him an appealing target for the Reds as they continue building a dynamic team under Jurgen Klopp. Tchouameni’s potential move would represent a significant addition to Liverpool’s lineup and could address gaps in the midfield, where they have looked to reinforce since the recent exits of long-serving players.

The possibility of Real Madrid parting with Tchouameni, however, would be somewhat surprising given his importance to the squad. The La Liga club typically holds onto players of his caliber and potential unless a compelling reason for a sale emerges. Madrid may look to replace Tchouameni with alternative midfielders, with rumors suggesting names like Manchester City’s Rodri and Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez as possible targets. Rodri, fresh off winning the Ballon d’Or for his standout performances, would be an ideal candidate to step into Madrid’s midfield. However, it seems highly improbable that Manchester City would be open to selling him, especially considering his immense value to their lineup.

Meanwhile, Enzo Fernandez, though touted as a potential replacement, has struggled to fully adjust at Chelsea. If Madrid were to go after him, it would raise questions as to whether he could truly fill the gap Tchouameni would leave behind. Fernandez is talented, yet his inconsistency at Stamford Bridge makes him a riskier choice.

Liverpool’s interest in Tchouameni signals the club’s early steps toward strengthening its midfield, though some might argue it is unnecessary given the recent form of Liverpool’s current midfield options. Nevertheless, the French international’s versatility and skill would provide depth and options that could prove valuable for Liverpool’s campaign in various competitions.

The outcome of this potential transfer remains to be seen, but it’s certainly a situation worth following. A transfer of this scale would have implications not only for Liverpool and Real Madrid but also for the broader landscape of European football.
