Arsenal dominate, but injuries to Rice and Ødegaard allow Spurs trio into combined North London derby XI.

The goalkeeper position in this lineup is held by David Raya from Arsenal. His selection reflects the club’s decision to replace Aaron Ramsdale with Raya at the start of last season, a move that was initially met with skepticism. However, Raya’s performances have since validated this decision, as he has been consistently reliable. His displays have earned him a place in the Premier League’s team of the season thus far, further justifying Mikel Arteta and Edu’s choice to bring him into the Arsenal squad.

At right-back, Ben White from Arsenal is included. There has been much discussion around White potentially rejoining the England squad, but his focus remains squarely on Arsenal. His contributions to Arsenal’s defense have been crucial as the team continues to challenge for the Premier League title. The lack of a national team call-up has allowed White to dedicate his full attention to his club, a situation that has ultimately benefitted Arsenal.

In the center-back roles, Arsenal’s William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães are chosen. Saliba’s impressive performances have led many to consider him one of the best defenders in the Premier League. His excellent form has also attracted interest from top clubs across Europe, prompting Mikel Arteta to demand a high price for any potential transfer. Gabriel, his partner in defense, is also featured in the lineup. There were earlier suggestions that Arsenal should consider selling Gabriel, but his importance to the team’s defensive structure is now undeniable. Securing his future with a new contract would be a smart move for Arsenal.

Jurrien Timber, also from Arsenal, is positioned at left-back. His return from injury has been eagerly awaited, and his presence further strengthens an already formidable Arsenal defense. Despite challenges faced by Tottenham’s Destiny Udogie, Timber’s impact on Arsenal’s defensive stability is significant, earning him a place in the lineup.

In central midfield, James Maddison from Tottenham Hotspur makes the cut. His transfer from Leicester City to Tottenham has been a success, with Maddison filling a crucial gap in the midfield. Though injuries have somewhat hindered his ability to fully return to his previous form, Maddison remains a vital component of Tottenham’s midfield setup.

Arsenal’s Jorginho takes another central midfield spot. Signed for a modest £12 million, Jorginho has proven to be an invaluable asset for Arsenal, especially in the absence of Declan Rice and Martin Ødegaard. His experience and composure are expected to be key in the upcoming matches, particularly in the North London derby.

Pape Matar Sarr from Tottenham Hotspur completes the midfield trio. Acquired for £14 million, Sarr has shown great potential. His performances reflect Tottenham’s smart recruitment strategy under Ange Postecoglou, and he is expected to play a key role in the team’s future.

On the right wing, Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka features prominently. Saka has been one of Arsenal’s standout performers, playing a pivotal role in their title aspirations this season with numerous goals and assists to his name.

Kai Havertz, also from Arsenal, is chosen as the center-forward. The club’s decision to spend £65 million on Havertz was met with initial doubts, but he has since adapted well to the No.9 role, delivering important goals and assists. His strong start to the season has silenced much of the early criticism and justified the club’s investment.

On the left wing, Tottenham’s Son Heung-Min is selected. Although some have speculated that Tottenham may need to phase Son out due to his age and contract status, he remains a key player. This season could be Son’s last opportunity to make a significant impact before his contract expires next year.
