Arsenal are reportedly targeting Ezequiel Fernandez, an Argentine defensive midfielder, for their squad during the current summer transfer window. According to Diego Monroig via Bolavip, the Gunners are eager to strengthen their team in preparation for a strong push for the Premier League title in the upcoming season. They see Fernandez as a player who could enhance their midfield both in the immediate term and for the future.
Fernandez, who has been with Boca Juniors since his youth days, began making an impact on the senior team at the start of 2023. Over the course of 67 appearances, he has scored five goals. Currently, he is representing Argentina at the Olympics, where he scored in a 3-1 victory over Iraq. However, Argentina’s tournament started off poorly with a loss to Morocco in their opening match.
Fernandez’s impressive performances have not gone unnoticed, attracting the interest of several clubs. Although he has four years remaining on his contract with Boca Juniors, speculation about his potential transfer this summer is rife. Recently, Al-Qadsiah, a club in the Saudi Pro League, made a $17 million offer for him, but Boca Juniors turned it down despite Fernandez showing interest in the move.
Arsenal, however, have shown significant interest in signing Fernandez. They are in search of a young, skilled midfielder to partner with Declan Rice, aiming to bolster their midfield options and secure Fernandez as a long-term asset. Arsenal has communicated their interest to Fernandez’s representatives and is hopeful to integrate him into their squad for the 2024/25 season. Although they have not yet submitted a formal bid, their serious interest poses a substantial challenge for Boca Juniors in retaining the promising young talent.
