As Mohamed Salah, Liverpool’s influential winger and playmaker, gears up for an unexpected transfer to a rival Premier League team, he could face a backlash and become one of the most disliked players in the league.

During a tumultuous period for both Liverpool FC and star player Mohamed Salah, the team has faced setbacks across various competitions, leading to speculation about necessary changes. With manager Jürgen Klopp’s impending departure, Liverpool’s recent exits from the FA Cup, Europa League, and slipping out of the Premier League title race have raised concerns.

Once viewed as potential quadruple contenders, Liverpool’s current outlook involves securing the Carabao Cup and securing a Champions League spot. Despite initial optimism last summer, there’s now a recognition of shortcomings, particularly in defense and attack. However, the club seems inclined towards a more long-term perspective, acknowledging the impact of injuries on their recent struggles.

Reports suggesting a possible departure for Salah have surfaced, with Sporting Director Richard Hughes purportedly behind the decision. Concerns about Salah’s form post-injury and his contract status, which expires in 2025, have fueled speculation. At 31, questions about his longevity and recent performance struggles have emerged, though his contributions this season remain significant.

Salah has still managed to tally 24 goals and 13 assists for Liverpool this season, despite setbacks. His recent performance, while not exceptional, is commendable given the circumstances. Comparatively, only Diogo Jota boasts a slightly better goals-per-minute ratio this season, highlighting Salah’s importance to the team.

Amidst concerns about Salah’s form and age, Liverpool must consider the risks of parting ways with their most dependable forward, especially with doubts about the consistency and availability of other forwards. This risk would be further compounded by the potential for a managerial change.
