Journalist Simon Phillips has reported that Chelsea remains interested in acquiring young strikers Benjamin Sesko and Evan Ferguson, despite their failure to secure Victor Osimhen’s signature during the summer transfer window. Both Sesko and Ferguson are regarded as some of the most promising attacking talents in football today.
Benjamin Sesko, who is currently 21 years old, transferred to RB Leipzig from RB Salzburg in the summer of 2023. He is committed to Leipzig until 2029. Since joining Leipzig, Sesko has made 45 appearances, scoring 19 goals and providing four assists. Transfermarkt estimates his market value at around €50 million.
Similarly, Evan Ferguson has been a key player for Brighton & Hove Albion’s first team since 2022. Over 65 appearances with the Seagulls, Ferguson has netted 16 goals and registered five assists. His market value is also estimated at €50 million by Transfermarkt.
These two players align with Chelsea’s current transfer strategy, which is focused on bringing in young, talented players under the club’s new ownership. Additionally, Chelsea might revisit their interest in Victor Osimhen during the January transfer window. Although Osimhen is presently on loan to Galatasaray from Napoli, Chelsea may once again pursue him.
At the start of the 2024 summer transfer window, Victor Osimhen was a major target for several top clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, and Liverpool. In an interview with CBS Sports earlier this year, Osimhen discussed his future and his plans. He stated that by the end of the season, he had already made up his mind about his career direction. He expressed confidence in his decision-making process, which he believes has led to successful outcomes in his career thus far, even if not all plans had initially unfolded as expected.
Osimhen emphasized his focus on finishing the current season strongly, spending quality time with his daughter, and then executing the career plan he had decided upon. Despite extensive negotiations involving PSG, Chelsea, Napoli, and Osimhen’s representatives during the summer transfer window, no deal was reached. Consequently, Osimhen ended up joining Galatasaray on loan, where he will aim to make a significant impact.
